The Grind

During an impromptu vacation with my girlfriends, we discussed how we are all in the grind. We all work very hard in our career. Advancements and promotions may pass us by. We may get the hardest assignments that come with little reward. Sometimes we see a glimmer of light but then are pushed back down. We are in The Grind.

After a minute of self-pity I tried to change the subject and talked about a project my communications friend worked on.  My teacher friend lit up and exclaimed- “That was you? We participated in your project this year!” The teacher went on to say how much of an impact that had for the school, and it was one of the best events of the year. My communications friend started to get emotional.

Then the next thing you know, my teacher received an email from one of the parents – thanking her for a wonderful job she did with the school play. Saying how much she appreciated the teacher’s efforts.

At that moment it hit me: Yes, being in the grind is not fun.  Sometimes we have to be broken down and divided. It’s not about me, but the impact that I will have.  The meat has to go through the grind in order to make the sausage.  It’s not what you go through, but it’s about the result at the end.  The results make it worth the pressure.
