I actually cried watching a movie today. Don’t get me wrong. I usually cry at tear jerking movies – and I Love it! But today was different. It was real. The movie was about global health issues but this one hit home in a truly unexpected way.
A girl went missing. When the school reached out to her parents, they were apathetic and just assumed she ran off with her boyfriend. They wanted nothing to do with the situation. When I saw this, my mind with to a friend of ours who has been missing for some time now. It was a shock to my system.
The movie went on to interview a friend of the missing girl… and then that is when I started to weep. The girl mentions how she missed her friend and was upset that her friend left without even saying goodbye. I wept because this young girl so easily expressed what I had hidden inside.
As a society we are supposed to say certain things or avoid certain feelings – but that hinders us from moving on. Thank you to the girl on the movie who helped me to expose the wound so I can begin the healing process.
